| CONSTITUTION OF THE SOCIETY
FOR GASTROENTEROLOGY AND HEPATOLOGY IN NIGERIA ARTICLE
1: Name
The name of the organization shall be “SOCIETY FOR GASTROENTEROLOGY AND HEPATOLOGY IN NIGERIA”
which shall be abbreviated as “SOGHIN” and hereafter referred to as “Society”.
The Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology
in Nigeria (SOGHIN) was founded in
September 2007 at Port Harcourt as a merger between the Nigerian
Chapter of the West
African Society of Gastroenterology (WASOG) and the Association
for the Study of the
Liver In Nigeria (ASLIN) during a plenary session of a joint conference
of both bodies.

Aims
& Objectives:
(1)
To provide a forum for the exchange of professional ideas, knowledge
and experiences among Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists in Nigeria
(2) To promote the advancement of health and allied sciences with
particular emphasis in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
and to foster progress in the prevention, recognition and treatment
of digestive diseases
(3) To foster and promote, in Nigeria, the provision of facilities
for research, the education and training of undergraduates and postgraduates
in all relevant fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
(4) To provide, where necessary, professional and technical advice
to the Nigerian governments
(5)
To establish and maintain lasting fraternal contacts between Gastroenterologists
and Hepatologists
(6)
To formulate and promote the enforcement of ethics of biomedical
research
(7)
To foster affiliation and collaboration with international bodies
such as African Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (Afr.
ASLD), International Association for the Study of the Liver (IASL),
World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) and other relevant bodies
that may be decided by The General Assembly.
ARTICLE
3 : Membership
(a)
Full Membership
Membership
of SOGHIN shall be open to all medical and allied scientists working
in the fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria
(b)
Associate Membership
This
shall be open to all medical and allied trainee scientists and postgraduate
students specializing in the fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
in Nigeria
(c)
Corporate Membership
This
shall be open to all corporate organizations with interest in the
fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology based on recommendation
of the Executive Council
(d)
International Membership
Admission
as an International Member shall be based on the fulfillment of
the requirements for full membership plus recommendation by at least
two SOGHIN members who are in good financial standing.
Full
and Associate memberships shall be by application to the Secretary-General,
accompanied by a current curriculum vitae, a list of the candidate's
publications and a letter from a referee who must be an active financial
member of the society. Upon receipt of such a duly completed application
form, the Secretary-General will bring it to the Executive Council
for consideration and approval before formal admission at the subsequent
Annual General Meeting.
